This is where you look at photography in a totally different light. Have fun pushing your camera to the limits. In the digital cameras of today night photography has become easier and fun to experience. Learn how to set custom camera modes and custom function buttons on your camera for night photography. This workshop is designed for someone who is looking to photograph star trails, milky way, light painting, moon rise and moon lit landscapes.

Whats Covered:

  • Camera Shooting modes (M) Manual, and (C) Custom.
  • Custom Function Buttons*
  • Understanding the effects of ISO on your exposure and image quality for long exposure.
  • Understanding how your camera focus works and setting the camera and/or lens to Manual Focus during night time and low light.
  • External Shutter Release (Trigger) – Single frame/Continuous/Bulb/Delay/Interval Time.
  • Custom white balance settings.
  • Understanding noise effects for long exposures.
  • Shooting with Long Exposure time (Bulb/Time).
  • Shooting with Live composite*.
  • Noise reduction for High ISO and long exposures.
  • Introduction to Low level lighting for nightscape photography.

  • 4 Hours of field instruction.
  • PDF guide sheets for your camera (Developed by Kenny for this workshop).
  • Tripod to use during the workshop.
  • Headlamp – Night light (Red Light).
  • External Trigger with Interval Time.
  • Controlling Exposure for sunsets and sunrise landscapes
  • Camera body and lens and all accessories needed if you don’t have a camera. (Limited number of camera systems for loan – first come first serve.

Who Should Attend:

  • New camera owners, and persons wanting to understand there camera shooting modes and menus.

What to bring:

  • DLSR, Mirrorless, or compact (point and shoot) camera.
  • Fully charged battery (plus extra battery if you have one).
  • Empty memory card (plus extra memory card if you have one).

Equipment that we provide, However if your have your own bring them:

  • Tripod.
  • Night light (Red Light), you cannot use a white light to see the settings on your camera.
  • External Trigger with Interval Time.

Suggested clothing:

  • DARK colored clothing.
  • Layer clothing – most of the workshop is outdoors.
  • Hiking shoes – the terrain is un-level and rocky.
  • Hat.
  • Sunscreen.
  • Bug repellent.
